San Andreas Medical Services (SAMS) provides emergency medical response, patient care, hospital services, medical training, and pharmaceutical oversight throughout San Andreas. SAMS personnel are expected to provide professional, compassionate, and responsible medical roleplay while maintaining the standards of the Department of Public Safety.

Chain of Command

San Andreas Medical Services follows the chain of command below, from highest to lowest rank.
Medical personnel should follow the department’s chain of command whenever reasonably appropriate. Operational, training, or administrative concerns should generally be handled at the lowest appropriate level before being escalated.

Rank Responsibilities

The Director of Medical Services is the highest-ranking official within San Andreas Medical Services and oversees department operations.The Director is responsible for:
  • Overall SAMS operations
  • Department administration
  • Command oversight
  • Policy and operational direction
  • Coordination with department leadership
  • Maintaining communication with other public-safety departments when appropriate
The Director regularly works with command staff and administration to ensure the department operates smoothly and effectively.
The Assistant Director of Medical Services supports the Medical Director in the daily administration and operation of SAMS.Responsibilities include:
  • Providing operational updates to the Director
  • Overseeing administrative activities
  • Assisting with department operations
  • Supporting and maintaining the chain of command
  • Assisting with department decisions
  • Coordinating with Medical Administration
The Director of Pharmaceuticals oversees the department’s pharmaceutical operations.Responsibilities include:
  • Maintaining the integrity of valid prescriptions
  • Overseeing the lawful handling of prescription medications
  • Supporting pharmaceutical procedures and accountability
  • Ensuring medication-related operations remain consistent with department standards
The Head of EMS is the senior operational leader for emergency medical personnel.The Head of EMS may handle most routine EMS matters and reports significant concerns to the Director and Assistant Director.Responsibilities may include:
  • EMS operational oversight
  • Personnel concerns
  • Shift and field coordination
  • Supporting department decisions
  • Ensuring EMS operations remain within policy
Significant matters should still be referred to higher command when required.
The Lead Training EMS oversees department training and certification.Responsibilities include:
  • Leading EMS training
  • Managing certifications
  • Developing training standards and regimens
  • Recertifying EMT personnel
  • Supporting initial medical certification training for law-enforcement personnel
Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians provide emergency and urgent care using both basic and limited advanced medical procedures.AEMTs may:
  • Provide emergency medical treatment
  • Stabilize patients
  • Transport patients to hospitals
  • Use advanced ambulance equipment
  • Perform procedures beyond the normal EMT-B scope
  • Administer or provide certain medications when permitted
AEMTs operate as part of the broader EMS response and provide a level of care between basic EMT and more advanced medical roles.
Basic Emergency Medical Technicians provide pre-hospital emergency care to ill or injured patients.EMT-B personnel are trained to:
  • Provide first aid
  • Respond to medical emergencies
  • Evaluate patients
  • Stabilize patients before transport
  • Provide basic medical procedures
  • Support safe transport to higher levels of care
EMTs are expected to remain composed under pressure and maintain a strong understanding of first aid and basic emergency medicine.
Paramedics provide advanced medical care to patients in critical condition.Paramedics may perform the duties associated with lower EMS levels while also handling more advanced procedures and interventions.Their responsibilities may include:
  • Advanced patient assessment
  • Interpretation of labs
  • EKG interpretation
  • X-ray interpretation
  • Manual defibrillation
  • Advanced medication interventions
  • More complex invasive procedures
Paramedics are expected to possess a strong understanding of both basic and applied medical sciences.
An Emergency Medical Responder provides immediate basic medical assistance during emergencies.EMRs may:
  • Provide initial lifesaving care
  • Perform CPR
  • Assist injured or ill patients
  • Support EMTs, AEMTs, Paramedics, and other medical personnel
